Discussion with Prof J. Thomas

BAS FF UPJŠ in an online discussion with Professor Jennifer Thomas, a guest speaker of the Embassy of the USA in Slovakia

On 28 October 2020 staff and students of the Department of the British and American Studies FF UPJŠ have been invited to participate in an online discussion organized by the Embassy of the U.S.A. in Bratislava with Professor Jennifer Thomas, about the implications of the forthcoming presidential elections in the U.S.A. The discussion with this prestigious expert on political journalism was moderated by Mirek Toda, a political journalist of Dennik N, and the number of seats was limited. For the carefully selected students of the BAS FF UPJŠ, this opportunity represented a reward for their activities in American Studies courses as well as their active participation in the department's activities in the past. Both staff and students had a chance to ask Professor Thomas questions about media bias, fake news, presidential election predictions, and other current issues that the Americans, and not only them, face these days. The detailed answers and comments by the professional, knowledgeable, illuminating, and sharing speaker represented an excellent learning opportunity for all present who also got information about the range of areas not particularly well-known to the general public. KAA FF UPJŠ v online diskusii s profesorkou Jennifer Thomas, hosťkou Veľvyslanectva USA na Slovensku

Vyučujúci a študenti Katedry anglistiky a amerikanistiky FF UPJŠ mali 28. októbra 2020 možnosť zapojiť sa do online diskusie, ktorú zorganizovalo Veľvyslanectvo Spojených štátov amerických v Bratislave s profesorkou Jennifer Thomas, o aspektoch blížiacich sa prezidentských volieb v USA. Diskusia s touto prestížnou expertkou v oblasti politického žurnalizmu bola moderovaná novinárom Mirekom Tódom, novinárom Denníka N. Keďže počet účastníkov bol obmedzený, KAA FF UPJŠ poskytla tieto miesta ako odmenu tým študentom, ktorí boli aktívni na predmetoch amerických štúdií a v minulosti sa aktívne zúčastnili podujatí katedry. Prítomní mali možnosť s profesorkou Thomas hovoriť o zaujatosti médií, ‚fake news‘, prezidentských voľbách a ďalších témach a problémoch, s ktorými zápasia občania USA, a nielen oni. Online diskusia bola výbornou príležitosťou dozvedieť sa od profesionálnej, kvalifikovanej, múdrej, a ochotnej rečníčky viac o oblastiach života v súčasnej americkej spoločnosti, ktoré nie sú dostatočne známe širokej laickej verejnosti.
